School Accomodations:An IEP versus a 504 plan

The differences between the two

An Individualized Educations Plan (IEP) is used within school systems to identify and provide supports to better meet your child's needs if they are falling behind academically. This may be initiated by the school or the parent. There are requirements that must be met in order to qualify for you. A request by a parent can be approved or denied. If approved the school will provide an evaluation to determine the child's presenting needs and provide resources to fill any gaps identified.

A 504 Plan is a plan that provides accommodations that supports your child's learning. Examples could include, allowing more times on tests or make up assignments, having a different testing environment, allowing for movement breaks, etc.
